Upcoming: Jabba-Related Exclusives Coming to Star Wars Weekends at Disney World

March 29, 2013

disney13_merch_10

I posted about some of these items a few months ago, but now we have much better pictures and some more information. In particular, we now know that these will be exclusives only available at Star Wars Weekends (from May 17 to June 9th), which I guess means that those of us not attending will have to resort to eBay to get our hands on them. One of the more interesting pieces is the Salacious Crumb puppet above. If they’re not too expensive, I might get a couple of them. I can think of a lot of comedic potential for having a posable Crumb puppet around the house.

This Thermal Detonator “Hot Potato” Game looks interesting, although I’m sure as a game it’s relatively simple. It seems almost like a Clone Wars animated style instead of what we saw in Return of the Jedi (which was shiny metallic silver).

I have yet to buy any of these Vinylmation figures, so I didn’t realize that they would be releasing a number of Jabba’s Palace characters, including Skiff Guard Lando, Gamorrean Guard, Leia as Boushh and Bib Fortuna. I don’t know if these are actually Star Wars Weekends Exclusives (my guess would be no).

There’s also apparently going to be a Han in Carbonite:

But the most exciting one is of course the Jabba and Salacious Crumb set, which is going to be an exclusive. I guess Jabba will be 9″ tall, which is a lot bigger than the normal figures (which are around 3″ tall, I believe).

I’ve already seen eBay auctions cropping up for a couple of these items, but I wouldn’t order quite this soon. Hopefully I won’t have to pay too much, since I intend to get everything here…

Attakus Jedi Luke Statue

March 28, 2013

attakus_jedi_luke2

I’ve posted a fair amount about Attakus statues because they made such a nice Jabba’s palace lineup. Even though they’re a little out of date at this point, they still have the largest Jabba statue ever, and the only large-scale Bib Fortuna and Oola statues ever made (I would’ve said the same about the Gamorrean Guard, but Sideshow did recently release a Gamorrean in their Mythos line that’s the same scale).

attakus_jedi_luke1

But while I like Attakus overall and they definitely have a nice, high-end feel, their human likenesses leave a lot to be desired. I think it’s more that they decided to go with a more stylized look, rather than that they tried to replicate the actors’ likenesses and failed, but in any case many people don’t care for their human statues. This, combined with the fact that Jedi Luke seems to be going for slightly higher prices than many, made me put off of getting this statue for a long time.

I did eventually find a good deal on one with a broken lightsaber, though, so I bit the bullet and got it. I ended up having to drill holes both sides of the broken saber to insert a metal rod for reinforcement, since glue alone wouldn’t hold (the saber is relatively heavy). It looks pretty good now.

attakus_jedi_luke3

The face isn’t fantastic, but at a normal viewing distance it’s not bad at all — better than most, actually. Here it is with the rest of my Jabba-related Attakus statues (the Gamorrean GuardHan in Carbonite, Boba Fett, R2-D2C-3poBib Fortuna, and Oola. (JabbaSlave Leia, and Salacious Crumb with Hooka Pipe won’t fit here, so I have them displayed elsewhere.)

attakus_jedi_luke4

I think I now have every statue that could potentially fit in a Jabba’s palace display (which is good, since I have no more room here). I suppose you could include the jawa statue, but I don’t like the fact that it’s holding a blaster.

Parade Balloon Jabba the Hutt T-Shirt by Mad Engine

March 27, 2013

parade_balloon_jabba

I stumbled upon this shirt design while Googling something else the other day. I had never seen it before, but I think it’s pretty clever. The background appears to be an actual black & white photo, on top of which Jabba has been drawn as a parade balloon. Judging from some listings I see at some online stores, it appears to be from the company “Mad Engine” (who also did the awesome “Jabba the Pimp” shirt I posted about a while back), but I see no mention of this on the shirt itself. It’s available from a number of online shirt stores (try Googling “Jabba parade balloon”), but they are all on the pricey side. Luckily, I got mine on ebay for a lot less.

Snow Jabba by icruise (2013 edition)

March 25, 2013

snow_jabba_2013_2

A couple of years ago, I posted about a Snow Jabba that I made. Since we had an unexpected (for me anyway) snowstorm yesterday, I thought I would take the opportunity to try again. This time the snow was nice and wet, which made it much more suitable for this kind of work than the last time I did this. Even though I spent less time on this one, overall I think it came out better. I didn’t bother trying to color it this time, though.

Star Wars POGs with Jabba the Hutt Package by Canada Games

March 21, 2013

jabba_pogs1

I talked a bit about POGs when I posted about the Jabba the Hutt slammers I got back in 2010, so I’d check that post out for a little background if you’re not familiar with the concept. This is an unopened package of POGs bearing the image of a certain handsome Hutt, as well as Han in Carbonite in the background. It apparently contains 7 POGs and 1 slammer, but I don’t intend to open it, so all I know for sure is that it’s got a Boba Fett POG showing. I don’t know if the POGs and slammers were randomly inserted in these packages or not. If they were (and one would think they would be, given their collectible nature), it’s a nice coincidence to get Boba Fett here.

I was certain that I had some loose POGs in my collection, but the only ones I can find are actually Tazos. I’m going to have to get some POGs as well.

Link: Think Geek Adds Jabba’s Palace-Themed “Star Wars Family” Car Decals

March 20, 2013

thinkgeek_decals

Think Geek has had some Star Wars-themed vinyl car decals available for a while. They’re basically a parody of those stickers everybody seems to have representing each member of their family. But this time they’ve added a lot of new characters in the form of their Scum and Villainy Booster Pack, including Jabba and Salacious Crumb, Oola, Boushh, the Rancor, Bib Fortuna, and Gamorrean Guard. There was already a Slave Leia in the first pack, so if you get them both you’ll have a very respectable Jabba’s palace setup. They’re $14.99 apiece, but you get two of each character, so that doesn’t seem too bad. [EDIT: While the graphic above and the email I originally received from Think Geek about this set indicated that you got two of each character, in reality you only get one. They have updated their site to remove the “x2” indicators beneath the characters, but I think they could make it clearer that you only get one of each, since the original pack has two of each character.]

I’ll definitely be getting both packs, although I think I’ll wait for one of their frequent sales. I’m just not sure I can fit everything on our car’s rear window… [EDIT: Here is the post about the sets after I received them.]

German Clone Wars Heads (Jabba the Hutt, Ahsoka Tano and Commander Cody) by Simba

March 16, 2013

german_cw_heads1german_cw_heads2

Most Star Wars products originate in the US, and even the ones from other countries are usually available in the US as imports. So it’s always interesting to find something like this. I got it from Germany and it appears to only be available there. This is part of a series of 20 plastic heads of Clone Wars characters. You get three heads in the package along with three postage-stamp-sized stickers and a “handyanhänger,” which looks like a dog tag but is apparently a charm that you might hang from a cell phone.

german_cw_heads5

The heads are smaller than I had expected — about an inch tall at most. They’re also just half heads that are flat on the back. I had assumed they would be made of a more rubbery material, but they’re made of hard plastic. The paint isn’t too bad, although I would say Jabba is the worst of the three. The sculpting is nice, though.

“Jabba Birthday” Card by PopShots (Pop-up Greeting Card)

March 13, 2013

popshots_jabba2popshots_jabba1

PopShots sold many different kinds of pop-up greeting cards in the late 90s, and also had a few Star Wars-themed ones. They’re square and open up to reveal a 3D scene of some kind. I believe all of the Star Wars ones used the same art on the front of the cards (the image on the left above). When in the clear plastic cover that they were sold in, you would see the image to the right on the back. But that’s just a sheet of paper — the actual back of the card has a space where you can write a message to the person you’re sending the card to.

popshots_jabba3

Inside it reads, “Birthday Greetings Oh Great Exhalted One,” but I believe the correct spelling is actually “O Exalted One.” Oops. One thing I found very interesting was that on the back of the slip of paper I picture above, there was a sign-up sheet for the “PopShots Collector’s Club.” Members would have 4 card sent to them each month for $20. It sounds like the cards you got would be more or less random, and there were apparently more than 200 in the entire collection. It’s interesting that they were treating the cards more like collectibles than actual greeting cards, but I have trouble understanding who would want to sign up for such a club.

popshots_jabba4

It’s a cool card though. You might be able to get a better idea by looking at it from the side. I know I would’ve been pretty pleased to get a card like this. 🙂

I’ve got one other birthday card that prominently features Jabba, but it’s really a Return of the Jedi card rather than being completely focused on Jabba. And of course I can’t forget my Rebo Band birthday card, either.

Star Wars Sticker Value Pack by RoseArt (1997)

March 11, 2013

roseart_stickers

RoseArt made a number of Star Wars stationery products in the 1990s, including a line of figural ink stamps. One thing I like about these stickers is that despite having been made around the time of the “Special Editions” of the original Star Wars films, they don’t use the awful CGI Jabba or any of the other additions Lucas made. And there are quite a few characters from Jabba’s palace, including Jabba himself, Salacious Crumb, and a Gamorrean Guard. It’s kind of interesting that they apparently only used images from Star Wars and Return of the Jedi — there aren’t any characters that are obviously unique to Empire.

I was intrigued by the “over 145 stickers” statement, since there are 48 stickers per page. If there were 4 sheets, it would seem odd for them not to say that there were 192 stickers (or perhaps “almost 200!”). But if they only included 3 sheets, it would only be 144. As it turned out, they include a partial sheet of 12 in addition to 3 complete sheets. Maybe they used the “over 145” verbiage so they could just add in whatever they happened to have left over.

Anatomically Correct Salacious Crumb Costume on eBay

March 9, 2013

crumb_costume_censored

Here’s something I never thought I’d see. A guy has made an adult-sized Salacious Crumb costume, complete with removable “junk.” (Click the picture for the uncensored version.) It actually looks halfway decent, even if the head does seem too big. The bidding starts at $150 if you’re interested.
