Here’s a cool sketch card of Jabba from comic book artist Mat Nastos.
Upcoming: Jabba’s Palace Kubricks Update PART 2
Han’s Hideout has a short Q&A that they apparently did with Medicom about the Jabba Kubricks. Click through to his site if you want the whole thing, but the short story is that the cardboard base I mentioned earlier is meant to be used by stores as a promotional tool, which is why there is only one per master case. In addition, Jabba and his throne will be divided into 6 parts, one of which will come with each basic figure (so you should get some duplicates if you buy a box of 12).
It seems a little shortsighted to only include the cardboard base for use by stores, since a lot of people are going to want them. I don’t want one enough to buy a master case at $600 or more, but I’d still like one.

LEGO Rotta the Hutt

This mini-figure is about the size of a small grape and came with the “Twilight” LEGO set (Anakin’s ship from the Clone Wars). The set costs around $100, but you can get just the individual figures on ebay for a few bucks apiece. I think this, the Hasbro figure, the Sideshow figure and the stuffed Rotta & backpack (which I don’t have yet) may be the only Rotta collectibles out there, unless you want to include something like the Gentle Giant Ahsoka maquette, which has a non-removeable Rotta in her backpack.
Micro Machines Action Fleet Jabba the Hutt

Like the Rancor I mentioned earlier, this Jabba is part of the “Action Fleet” series, which generally seems to include some larger-scale things than are usually found in Micro Machines toys. I have several other Jabba-related Micro Machines, and they all have Jabbas that are fairly small and not to scale with the humanoid figures in the sets. As you can see, in this one Jabba is significantly larger. He’s over two inches long, and his throne is close to 3 inches wide. Jabba is made of a soft rubbery material, and can be removed from the throne (although Salacious Crumb is permanently attached to his tail). His sculpt is a little odd looking, but still cute.
His throne actually has wheels on it, which I thought was pretty funny. I guess it would allow you to do a “wheel back to reveal the Rancor pit” move if you wanted to, or maybe you could have little throne races. 😉 There are also some froggy snacks in his bowl, which I liked.
The set comes with 5 other figures: Slave Leia, Leia as Boushh, Ishi Tib, Sy Snootles, and Lando as Skiff Guard.
Star Wars Name Art by Cynthia Cummens-Narcisi

Cynthia Cummens-Narcisi did this “name art” for my son last year. She’s done a few of these for other people, and her original concept was to use one character or creature for each letter in the child’s name (R=Rancor, etc.). But obviously that works better for some people than for others. For this, I asked her to just use some of my son’s favorite characters (I guess you can see my influence there…) It’s an 8 x 10 piece done in watercolors.
Upcoming: Jabba’s Palace Kubricks Update

Some new information about the upcoming Jabba-related wave of Kubrick figures has recently come to light. Some of this is second or third-hand info so it could change, but it sounds accurate enough to me.
These are expected to come out in June and apparently come in boxes of 12 (which in turn come in master cases of 4 boxes). It looks like each box of 12 is going to be around $160. This is basically the way previous waves have been handled, so no real surprises here although it wasn’t clear if this new “DX” wave would be the same or not. Each box will apparently have the following distribution of figures:
2x Luke ( Jedi Knight )
3x C-3PO & Salacious Crumb
3x R2-D2 ( Jabba’s Barge )
2x Chewbacca ( Boushh’s Prisoner )
1x Amanaman
1x Bib Fortuna
No word on if there are chases, or what they might be. Each figure is supposed to come with one piece that can be assembled to make the Jabba above, but as of right now we’re not sure exactly what the pieces are, or who comes with what. Since you’ll be getting a number of duplicates if you buy a box, you’ll presumably get enough to make part of an extra Jabba/throne as well. It’s also possible that the parts just come on their own in each box of 12, and aren’t included with the individual figures at all. (There are still a fair number of unknowns about this set.)
I also discovered today that there will apparently be a cardboard background for the set, but assuming the info I have is correct, there will only be one of these included in each master case! That means they will be quite rare and expensive.
Finally, in addition to the nice shot of Jabba above, I also found a good photo of all of the standard figures in the wave.

Vintage Rebo Band Paint-By-Number Kit by Craft Master

This is another in the same series as the Jabba Paint-By-Number Kit I posted about a while back. As I did with the Jabba kit, I scanned in the board and “painted” it with Photoshop. It’s kind of fun.

Sideshow 1/6 Scale Rotta the Hutt

This figure is actually the “bonus” accessory that comes with the Sideshow-exclusive Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker figure (you do have to pay $10 more than the normal price of $89.99 for the exclusive version). He’s about 2.5 inches tall. Rotta was actually what convinced me to order the Anakin figure, which I was kind of lukewarm about originally. However, I’ve gotten less interested in 1/6 scale figures since then, so I decided just to keep the Rotta and sell the Anakin figure. Rotta is a rotocast (Rottacast?) figure with no articulation. So he’s basically a piece of hollow plastic or vinyl that’s been painted. But he’s pretty cute, and one of the few Rotta collectibles out there.
