Upcoming: Sideshow 1/6 Scale Gamorrean Guard

June 18, 2010

More news about upcoming products — this time it’s the 1/6 scale Gamorrean Guard by Sideshow Collectibles. They had shown some teaser shots of the sculpt a while back, but this is the first we’ve seen of the painted and assembled figure. It looks good, but I think the skin tone is too dark of a green. It could use more yellow.

Apparently they will be revealing the entire figure on June 22nd in their Production Blog, and the figure will go up for preorder when Sideshow’s newsletter goes up on the 24th. No word on pricing yet, but I think this will easily be $125 or more.

Upcoming: Video Review of Hasbro’s 2010 Vintage Collection Jabba Set Posted

June 17, 2010

The updates from Sandtroopers.com just keep coming. Now they’ve added a video review of Hasbro’s new Jabba, which I have embedded below.

Upcoming: Out-Of-Box Shots of Hasbro’s 2010 Vintage Collection Jabba

June 17, 2010

Sandtroopers.com has posted pictures of Hasbro’s upcoming Jabba set out of the box. It looks pretty good overall, but it does seem a bit of a letdown compared to the prototype pictures used on the back of the box. The paint on the throne and pillows look off to me, and I’m a little concerned about how the “posable tail” feature will work. It looks weird in some of the shots. Hopefully that will be fixable with some futzing. Jabba looks good overall, though. Definitely the best action figure version we’ve seen. Click through for the entire picture set. EDIT: They have also added a video review of the set.

Pocket Hutt (Jabba the Hutt Felt Plush)

June 16, 2010

I got this from etsy user louiex, who specializes in roughly sewn felt plush dolls. He’s got some pretty cool ones of horror characters, and a couple of other Star Wars guys.

He’s about 10 inches long by 6 inches high. I think if you set out to make a Jabba voodoo doll, it would look a lot like this. 🙂

Lenticular Burger King Gift Card (Jabba the Hutt with Leia)

June 15, 2010

While technically not a trading card, this gift card that Burger King put out in 2005 is definitely a collectible. It’s also surprisingly cool. It’s lenticular, so there are two different images that you can see depending on your viewing angle (so the shots above are of the same card, just from different angles).

Upcoming: Hasbro’s 2010 Vintage Collection Jabba Revealed!

June 14, 2010

Over at Sandtroopers.com, user Gorkoracing has managed to get his hands on a pre-release version of the new Jabba and Oola with throne, and has kindly posted pictures. I’m not sure if he’s taken Jabba out of the box (or if the figure is actually in there) but judging by the back of the box, this Jabba will be amazing! The sculpt looks great, and the throne in particular is very impressive. You also get the Salacious Crumb that came with the carded C-3PO figure a while back. Click the images below for a larger version.

EDIT: They have now posted out-of-box pictures as well.

Vintage Return of the Jedi Coloring Book

June 12, 2010

This is a coloring book from 1983 that features scenes from Return of the Jedi. Naturally, Jabba and his cronies feature rather prominently. The illustrations are actually very well done, although most of them appear to be straight recreations of publicity shots that I’ve seen from the movie.

A couple of sample pages are below. Line-based art like this doesn’t look very good when you shrink it down significantly in size, so I’ve cropped the pages for these previews. Click on the previews to see the full image. I’ve also got a couple of high res PDF files of these pages here and here if you want to print them off and color them. I tried my hand at one.

June 12, 2010

Sci Fi Wire has posted a gallery of some pretty impressive Star Wars-based sand sculptures, including two Jabbas that I have reposted here. It’s definitely worth seeing the whole gallery, though.

Vintage Jabba Baseball Hat by Sales Corporation of America

June 11, 2010

Made in 1983, this Jabba hat is sort of a companion to the Gamorrean Guards hat that was put out by the same company. It uses the same Jabba image that is found on so much of the vintage merchandise, but interestingly it’s got a number of differences from the versions that we usually see.

For example, there is actually smoke coming out of Jabba’s mouth — something that I can’t recall seeing on any of the other products based on this image. And the hooka is present on the throne, while in most other versions of this image it is missing (and Salacious Crumb is sitting where it should be). There is also the rotisserie in the background with the fire underneath it, the pillows, and the red circle in the background. (As a side note, I’ve never really been sure what that is supposed to be — a light? A sun?) In any case, it’s very interesting that this particular version should be so different. It’s quite nicely done, even if the hat itself is a little flimsy.

Chalk Jabba

June 10, 2010

Things have been a little slow in the last few days, partially because I’m waiting for some things to arrive in the mail, and partially because I’m starting to run out of Jabba items to get, at least until new products are released in the coming months. I do still have a lot of individual Jabba-related figures that I need to do listings for, but I’ve been putting that off. In any case, to tide you over, here is a chalk Jabba that my son and I drew on our backyard patio. 🙂
