Max Rebo Band Kubricks
I mentioned a while ago that Medicom Toy is coming out with a wave of Kubrick figures based on Jabba’s Palace later this year. I’m definitely getting those and I have the other Jabba-themed Kubricks (Slave Leia, Gamorrean Guard, Han in Carbonite, Lando as Skiff Guard, and Leia as Boushh — plus the Jawa and Boba Fett, which could fit in at Jabba’s Palace). However, I was never able to get the Max Rebo Band set. It was exclusively sold on the Medicom website in Japan, so it’s quite a bit harder to find than normal Kubricks. I finally found one of these during my trip to Nakano Broadway in Tokyo. It was expensive, but less than they’ve been going for on ebay (they’ve recently been topping $200). I expect these to only get more expensive once the Jabba’s Palace wave of Kubricks comes out, so I’m glad I got one.
It comes with Max Rebo and his piano (it’s a separate piece), Sy Snootles, Droopy McCool and Doda Bodonawieedo, as well as their respective instruments (or mic in Sy’s case). As you may know, the band originally only had the first three characters, with Doda being added for the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi in 1997. I’m not sure why they decided to add him to this set, but he’s a pretty nice figure in any case. They come with a glossy cardboard backdrop that you can pose them on.
