Amanaman Kubrick (Jabba’s Palace Wave)
At last! A totally new figure. Amanaman was probably the biggest surprise from this wave (aside from Jabba himself), since he’s a relatively minor character. But the vintage figure is fairly rare and sought after, and the people at Medicom like to make little homages to the vintage line, so that may be one reason we got him. In any case, he’s definitely a welcome addition. I had hoped there would be more Jabba’s Palace aliens in this wave (if only as chase figures), but that was not to be.
Amanaman’s “build-a-Jabba” part is the middle section of Jabba’s throne.
C-3PO and Salacious Crumb Kubrick (Jabba’s Palace Wave)
While C-3po is yet another recycled figure, we at least get a new addition in the form of Salacious Crumb, who is clinging to poor C-3Po’s head. He comes as a separate piece that must be attached to the side of C-3PO’s head, and his tail is also a separate piece that you must insert. The part of the tail that you are supposed to put into Salacious’ butt (ahem) is actually too big to fit, so I had to make the hole bigger. You could probably also try dipping the figure into hot water to soften the plastic, but that seemed like too much work.
C-3PO’s “build-a-Jabba” part is Jabba’s head.
R2-D2 (Jabba’s Barge) Kubrick (Jabba’s Palace Wave)
This is another figure that has appeared in other series (the Early Bird Set and the recent two-pack with C-3PO and R2-D2). This figure looks to be the same as the one in the two-pack, but with the addition of his drink tray.
His “build-a-Jabba” part is Jabba’s body.
Another slightly underwhelming entry in the Jabba’s Palace wave of Kubricks is Chewbacca. He’s nicely done, and is a unique sculpt from the one included in the Early Bird Set, but it’s still the same character with a few minor additions (namely a spiky collar and chain).
He comes with two parts of the “build-a-Jabba”: Jabba’s tail and one end of his throne.
Jedi Luke Kubrick (Jabba’s Palace Wave)

This is probably the least exciting entry in the Jabba’s Palace wave of Kubricks, since he’s just a slightly redone version of the Jedi Luke Kubrick from series 5. He comes with the bone that he put in the Rancor’s mouth and is wearing a vest, but aside from that he is very similar.
He comes with the water pipe section of the “build-a-Jabba” figure.
Upcoming: Star Wars Mighty Beanz

Non-Star Wars versions of these have apparently been out for quite some time, but I’ve never seen them before. These are little capsules decorated with various characters and weighted so they will move in amusing ways. At the moment I only know of the ones that are shown on the SpinDirect Star Wars page, but I’m happy to report that Jabba and Max Rebo are among the ones shown. With more than 75 characters, I would hope that some other Jabba-related ones will show up as well. The versions currently in stores seem to be priced at around $10 for 6 beanz, although the “exclusive pack” that SpinDirect is selling costs quite a bit more, as it includes a collector case and flip track for playing with them.
It seems that they sell these blind-packaged (with one out of 4 visible), so getting a particular character might be difficult. I may just resort to getting the ones I want loose on eBay. EDIT: Got the Jabba one (and a few others) at Toys R Us.
Here’s a commercial for the non-Star Wars ones:
Spencer Brinkerhoff, who did this sketch card of Jabba for me, recently revealed his Celebration 5-exclusive print, entitled “That bad, huh?” It’s the scene where Han and Luke are being dragged off to the Sarlacc Pit. It can be reserved for pickup at Celebration here, but I’m going to see if I can’t find a way to get one myself.

In Hasbro’s SDCC presentation today they showed a picture of their upcoming Gamorrean Guard figure that looks MUCH better than the one I posted earlier. As I suspected, it does have a soft goods “fur” loincloth, and since this is presumably the prototype, the paint job looks amazing. The production figure won’t look like this, but it does show how good the figure could look with a really great paint job. I’ll be getting at least a couple of these guys.
I’ve got to say, I like the looks of this better than Sideshow’s upcoming 1/6 scale figure! It looks a little more like a bulldog than a pig, but that’s my only real criticism.
Hermi Odle Figure by Hasbro

Hermi Odle is similar to Ephant Mon in that he’s a large Jabba’s Palace alien that never had an action figure before. For some reason they decided to use real cloth for his outfit instead of the plastic that they used for Ephant Mon. Generally speaking, I prefer plastic to soft goods in this scale because it can be hard to get real cloth to look realistic, but I think this works well. He is a pretty goofy looking character, but the sculpt appears to be a good one.

Jabba’s Palace Court Denizens by Hasbro

I’m cheating a little here, because I never got this actual set. It’s rather expensive on the secondary market because two of the figures have never been released outside of this set. I already had a B’Omarr Monk, so instead of paying a lot for the complete set, I bought the other two figures separately on eBay. The only difference between my B’Omarr Monk (which was a mail-away figure) and this one is the color of the liquid in the brain bowl (see this page for a comparison), so I think I can live without that one.
The other two figures are Bubo the “frog-dog” and Wol Cabasshite (aka Ghoel). Bubo is pretty nice, with a mouth that opens and closes. I do kind of wish that they had used a real chain instead of a plastic one. Ghoel has a suction cup that should in theory allow you to stick him on a flat surface, but I couldn’t get him to stick to the sides of my figure case for more than a minute or two. Both of these are very different in color from the Sideshow versions in the Bubo Creature Pack and Salacious Crumb Creature Pack. I’m not sure which is more accurate (I think it depends somewhat if you want them to be based on the appearance of the puppets in person or on screen.)
