“Jabba the Hutt vs. Fantastic Four” Print by Jose Varese

March 22, 2017

Sometimes I think that there are too many mashups these days. A good example are those T-shirts whose only reason for existing is to combine two popular characters or properties in unexpected ways. And while I have quite a few of those, they do get a little old sometimes. And yes, this print by Jose Varese could probably fall under the “unnecessary mashup” category. But on the other hand, it’s pretty awesome! I used to be a big fan of Marvel comics when I was a teenager and had a large comic collection — including a (very poor condition) copy of Fantastic Four #1. So it’s kind of cool to see these combined in this way. It’s also interesting to think how this situation might have come about, with Jabba apparently having captured Captain America in carbonite, and the FF team going to save him.

The artist made this print available as part of a Kickstarter campaign, and it’s made to look like it’s a piece of original comic art (like these), but it’s just a print. It’s about 11″ x 17″ in size.
