Vintage European Bi-Logo Jabba the Hutt Action Playset

July 13, 2012

This version of the vintage Jabba playset was sold in Europe. I got mine from England, but I’m not sure if it was actually sold there — most auctions I’ve seen from the UK are for the American English version. This version is a little hard to come by the US, so while my example isn’t in perfect condition, it still took a while to find. It’s often referred to as the “bi-logo version” due to the two “Return of the Jedi” logos on one side (in French and Spanish), although it’s only got one logo on the other side (in English). It’s certainly the most international version — I count at least 6 languages on the box (English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German and Italian). Unfortunately I don’t have the instructions. Those would be interesting to see in all the different languages. The toy itself is identical to the US version, as far as I know.

One of the goals I set out for myself when I started collecting Jabba-related items was to get all of the versions of the vintage Jabba playset. I believe this is the last of the major variations that I needed. I understand that there are some foreign versions which were just the American playset with a foreign language sticker on it, but in terms of unique boxes, I believe I have them all: the American full-color version, the American line art version (Sears version), the Canadian version, the Lili Ledy (Mexican) version, and finally this European bi-logo version. If anyone knows of other versions, I’d be very interested to hear about it.

I have a vintage jabba that paint looks different and the logo on the bottom is not in the same place. I have 5 vintage jabba’s and 4 are the same same. The one that is different has more of the 2 tone look like how he looks on the box they come in. The biggest thing is the logo being in a different spot very weird. Let Me know what You think.

It’s possible the different one is a Mexican version. Do you have a picture or anything? Where is the logo?

hello, it is hard to tell the color differents but the jabba with the 2 tone is 396.jpg. The first 3 pictures are the one that is different colors and logo spot. The 4th pic is a normal jabba. The face does not push in at all, like you reported for the Mexico one. I have no idea why this one is different. The logo on a normal one is on the other side towards the back. Also this logo is one line. The hk is one the same line. For fun I sent a pic of my jabba barge also.

    Hi
Just got home from work and I have one of these waiting for me – box is open but everything still sealed and mint. I am soooooooooo chuffed! Never had one as a kid but have been desperate to add one to my collection. It will take pride of place for sure.

Nice! At some point I’d like to get one in better condition, but this one will do for now.

Was 11 when this came out in ’83 and I honestly didn’t want it or any other Jabba which is surprising as I wanted anything to do with SW. Fast forward to today and I can’t get enough of this toy. Looking to get a sealed box and mint loose now for display – gotta say a huge thanks for this site, superb absolutely superb.
