Vintage Sigma Ceramic Jabba the Hutt Bank

September 23, 2009

This is a really nice piece. It’s quite a bit larger than I had expected. It’s around 7 inches tall by 6 inches wide and 5 inches deep. And yes, it’s a bank (although I have no intention of using it as such). You put the coins in Jabba’s mouth and can remove them through a hole in the bottom that’s covered by a rubber stopper. The paint is pretty nicely done, considering the medium it’s in. Sigma actually made an entire line of Jabba-related ceramic pieces, including Bib Fortuna, Leia as Boushh, and a Gamorrean Guard, among others. I’m tempted to pick them all up. I do already have the R2-D2 and C-3PO piece.

While this one is a bank, the other ones in the series are just ceramic statues that have no other purpose, and in that sense they are a little strange. I’m not sure who the original audience for these was. They look like something my mother might collect, if the subject matter was different.
